Position Overview

As an Auxiliary Toll Collector, you will play a key role in classifying vehicles, managing toll transactions, and using toll and lane equipment according to the highest standards. You will report directly to the Plaza Manager and must adhere to all company policies, contractual obligations, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shift Operations: Begin each shift by following the prescribed procedures, ensuring you are prepared and knowledgeable about your duties.
  • Transaction Management: Efficiently handle cash and other payment methods, ensuring accuracy in every transaction.
  • Equipment Use: Operate toll and lane equipment to classify vehicles quickly and accurately.
  • Customer Service: Foster a positive experience for road users by maintaining a professional, friendly, and approachable demeanor at all times.
  • Cleanliness and Hygiene: Keep the toll booth area clean and tidy, maintaining a hygienic and welcoming environment.
  • Policy Compliance: Report any issues, such as policy breaches, incidents, or equipment malfunctions, to the supervisor immediately.
  • Safety and Security: Strictly adhere to safety, health, and security standards, ensuring a secure environment for both colleagues and road users.
  • Shift Close-Out: Complete all end-of-shift procedures diligently, including documentation and reconciliation tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: Possession of a Grade 12 certificate.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English, with clear and effective communication abilities.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and numeric abilities to handle toll software and cash transactions.
  • Customer Relations: Interpersonal skills that allow you to engage warmly and respectfully with diverse road users.
  • Integrity: Trustworthiness and accountability in handling cash, maintaining the Plaza’s reputation.
  • Physical Stamina: Capacity to work long hours, including weekends and public holidays, in a high-paced environment.
  • Previous Experience: Previous work as a cashier or experience in customer service is an advantage, although not mandatory.
  • Additional Skills: Conflict resolution abilities to effectively manage occasional difficult situations with road users.

Preferred Personal Qualities:

The ideal candidate will be organized, proactive, friendly, and energetic. Being presentable and maintaining excellent personal hygiene are also important. Your attitude towards teamwork and customer service will be crucial in delivering a smooth and satisfactory experience for every road user.

Special Requirements:

  • Willingness to work in shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Proof of residence in Hammanskraal, Kameelport, Majakaneng, Besplaas, or Bela-Bela.
  • Shortlisted applicants will undergo security clearance checks and a mandatory medical assessment to comply with OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) legislation.
