About the Role
Heineken Beverages (South Africa) is looking for a skilled and experienced Machine Specialist to join the Manufacturing team at our Springs facility. In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing equipment to support smooth, efficient production. Your expertise will help ensure that our high-tech machinery operates at peak performance, reducing downtime and enhancing productivity.
Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the Machine Specialist is to oversee, maintain, and improve the efficiency of equipment to support the production plan. This role involves conducting preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting in coordinating line activities to meet operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Maintenance and Optimization:
- Ensure machinery and equipment are consistently maintained to the highest standards, improving overall equipment efficiency (OEE) across production lines.
- Conduct both planned and preventative maintenance, minimizing unplanned downtime.
- Adhere to all maintenance schedules and follow best practices to maintain optimal machine conditions.
- Perform routine inspections to address any potential issues proactively.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Supervise machinery and equipment to ensure they meet health and safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, creating a safe working environment for all staff.
- Identify and report any safety concerns to management and take action to address hazards.
- Engineering Support for Production:
- Provide technical support and guidance to the production department, ensuring machines operate efficiently during shifts.
- Conduct analysis of machine breakdowns, resolving technical issues quickly to minimize disruption to production.
- Lead and supervise technical adjustments to improve machine performance.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
- Participate in “mini-business” improvement initiatives, focusing on boosting productivity and reducing costs.
- Suggest and implement modifications to enhance machine functionality and efficiency.
- Engage in activities aimed at optimizing maintenance and production, including knowledge transfer to operators to improve overall technical competency.
- Administrative and Supervisory Duties:
- Complete and manage administrative tasks, such as job cards, quality check sheets, and maintenance logs.
- Act as a stand-in supervisor when required, demonstrating leadership qualities and adherence to company values.
- Supervise and train maintenance personnel, ensuring they are effectively deployed and equipped to handle tasks according to priority.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Background:
- N6 qualification or equivalent in a technical field, with a trade certificate as a Millwright preferred.
- Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years in a high-speed production environment, ideally within bottling or a similar high-tech, fast-paced industry.
- Completion of an apprenticeship with a recognized institution is advantageous.
- Technical Skills and Competencies:
- Proven problem-solving abilities and familiarity with various problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to operate under pressure while maintaining high attention to detail and focus on quality.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate colleagues and foster a supportive work environment.
- Self-motivated, with the capability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
