How to Apply for NSFAS 2025
Here’s what you need to do to get started:
- Create your myNSFAS profile: Head to www.nsfas.org.za to set up your account.
- Prepare your documents: Make sure you have all the required supporting documents ready for submission.
- Use a functional device: Ensure your phone, tablet, or computer is ready to complete the application.
- Keep your login details private: Never share your account or personal information with anyone.
- Only apply via the NSFAS website: NSFAS applications are free. Beware of anyone charging fees to help you apply.
NSFAS Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for NSFAS funding, you must:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be enrolled in an approved course at a public university or TVET college.
- Have a household income of less than R350,000 per year (R600,000 for students with disabilities).
Checking Your NSFAS Application Status

NSFAS Improvements for 2025
NSFAS is working with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to improve the application process, especially in verifying parental relationships. Additionally, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries will receive automatic funding decisions without needing extra documents (except for disabled students).
Mobile App for NSFAS 2025
A new NSFAS mobile app will soon be available for iOS, Android, and later HUAWEI devices. Through the app, students will be able to track their application and funding progress using WhatsApp, USSD, and biometric features.
