Job Purpose:

The primary objective of this role is to lead and execute a range of operations and interventions across all facets of the operational policing environment. This includes overseeing operational shifts and responding to ad hoc duties, ensuring the delivery of effective and efficient policing services within the City of Tshwane metropolitan area.

Appointment Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of a Grade 12 qualification.
  • Professional Registration: Must be registered as a Traffic Officer in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996).
  • Police Service Appointment: Must be appointed as a member of a municipal police service under the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act 68 of 1995).
  • Experience: A minimum of four years of relevant working experience.
  • Driver’s License: Valid Code B or EB driver’s license.
  • Health & Fitness: Must successfully pass medical and physical fitness tests as mandated by the Chief of Police.
  • Legal Standing: No criminal record, convictions, or pending charges (except for prior political convictions under the previous dispensation). Applicants must consent to fingerprinting as part of the verification process.
  • Oath of Office: Must be willing to take the Oath of Office for the Tshwane Metro Police Department.
  • Deployment Flexibility: Applicants must be open to deployment anywhere within Tshwane, as required by departmental management. By applying, candidates irrevocably agree to this condition.

Primary Functions:

  • Enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996) and by-laws through patrols, roadblocks, and targeted operations as per departmental objectives.
  • Conduct visible policing to prevent crime.
  • Attend to and secure accident scenes.
  • Respond to incidents on public roads to maintain the safe and smooth flow of traffic.
  • Supervise and ensure compliance with complaints related to animals, noise, traffic, and more.
  • Execute all duties professionally and efficiently, adhering to established procedures and policies.
  • Oversee road policing, crime prevention, and municipal by-law enforcement across all Tshwane areas.
  • Manage and assist with escort duties.
  • Supervise all unit activities.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as required.
