Are you passionate about healthcare and ready to embark on a rewarding nursing career? The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health invites South African applicants to apply for the three-year Diploma in Nursing programme, set to commence in 2025.

Minimum Requirements for Pre-2008 Matriculates:

  • Grade 12 (Std 10): Minimum 25 points
  • English: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade
  • Biology/Physics/Chemistry/Physiology: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade
  • Mathematics: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade

Minimum Requirements for Post-2008 Matriculates:

  • National Senior Certificate (Diploma): Minimum 25 points (Life Orientation is not scored)
  • English: Level 4
  • Home Language/First Additional Language: Level 3
  • Mathematics: Level 3 / Maths Literacy Level 5
  • Life Science/Physical Science: Level 4
  • Life Orientation: Level 4
  • Any other 2 subjects

Required Documents for Application:

  • Copy of Matric certificate
  • Copy of Identity document
  • Proof of residence or affidavit
  • A signed affidavit from the Commissioner of Oath, clearly indicating that you have not previously benefited from the Department of Health bursary system at the KZN College of Nursing

Application Process:

 

  • Note:
    • No hand-delivered applications will be accepted.
    • Applications should not be directed to training institutions, hospitals, head office (Natalia), or the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.
    • Only successful applicants will be contacted due to the high volume of applications.
    • All shortlisted candidates will undergo a compulsory knowledge assessment, medical surveillance, medical examination, and documentation verification.

Important Information:

  • The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health will provide financial assistance to successful candidates in the form of a bursary.
  • Applicants who have previously benefited from the Department of Health’s financial assistance for training will not be eligible for entry into the programme.
  • Successful candidates will be required to sign an agreement with the Department of Health, attend as full-time students, participate in work-integrated learning (WIL) in shifts (including public holidays, weekends, and nights), and will be placed within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health Hospitals and Clinics as part of the programme requirements.
  • Upon completion of the training, students will be registered with the South African Nursing Council as General Nurses in line with the Nursing Act (Act No. 33 of 2005).
